Is Your Clinic Longevity-Ready?

Issue 104 of the weekly longevity intelligence newsletter with Dr. David Luu, "The Longevity Clinic Readiness Checklist." A practical guide for what must be documented, implemented, and reviewed before launching or scaling a longevity medicine practice.

Hey Doc,

In this issue 104, I mapped the systems a physician founder needs to build, launch, and scale a longevity clinic. It became the Longevity Clinic Readiness Checklist - the practical guide I wish I had when I started.

As always, Happy Sunday.
Dr. David Luu, Founder, longevitydocs.™

Each week, I try to explore one idea that could advance longevity medicine and hopefully support physicians in bringing it to life. For my full perspective, read the full issue on Substack.

What Is the longevitydocs Clinic Readiness Checklist?

Longevity medicine should be more than a menu of tests and therapies. It should be physician-led, grounded in evidence, transparent about uncertainty, measured by outcomes, and supported by systems that protect patients and clinical judgment. We created this checklist to help physicians and practice leaders identify what must be documented, implemented, and reviewed before launching or scaling a longevity medicine practice.

How to Use the longevitydocs Longevity Clinic Readiness Checklist

Review the checklist with your leadership team. Tick an item only when it is documented, assigned to an owner, implemented in practice, and reviewed on a defined cadence. Keep evidence for each completed item, prioritize safety-critical gaps first, and turn the remainder into a dated action plan. Revisit it at launch, before adding services, after major changes, and at least annually.

The 7 Categories in the Longevity Clinic Readiness Checklist

The full checklist covers 25 items across seven categories:

  • Clinical – onboarding, protocols, outcomes and objectives
  • Medication and Diagnostics – labs, imaging, prescribing safety, peptides and off-label use
  • Safety and Quality – clinical governance, incident review, emergency readiness
  • Legal and Finance – advisors, corporate structure, risk and coverage, pricing
  • Data and Technology – records, security, AI governance
  • Brand, Sales and Marketing – brand claims, sales and referral compliance
  • Network – education, community, research

What Does Clinical Governance Look Like in a Longevity Clinic?

A defensible longevity practice runs on real clinical governance, not just a name on the door. The checklist's Safety and Quality section spells out exactly what has to be documented and who has to own it before you're actually covered.

Why AI Governance Belongs on Every Longevity Clinic's Checklist

As longevity clinics adopt AI for triage, documentation, and biomarker interpretation, governance can't be an afterthought. A clinic without a documented AI policy is one uncontrolled tool away from a liability event: an AI-drafted note nobody reviewed, or a vendor handling identifiable patient data it was never cleared to touch. The checklist's Data and Technology section covers what has to be in writing before AI touches a single clinical decision, including who signs off before an AI-assisted recommendation ever reaches a patient.

The Legal and Financial Advisors Every Longevity Practice Needs

Most physicians open a longevity practice without the right advisors on retainer, and pay for it later, in a compliance issue nobody caught, a lease that assumes conventional practice margins, or a corporate structure that does not hold up under regulatory review. The checklist names exactly who has to be in place before you open your doors, and the questions those advisors need to answer before you sign anything.

How to Structure Pricing and the Consumer Revenue Cycle

Cash-pay longevity practices live or die on pricing transparency, and a vague membership agreement is one of the fastest ways to trigger a billing dispute or a consumer-protection complaint. The checklist lays out what your pricing, membership terms, and cancellation policy need to spell out in writing, and where the line sits between compliant care and a model regulators watch closely.

What Belongs in a Longevity Clinic's Onboarding and Protocol Framework?

A longevity intake that skips standardized consent, red-flag instructions, and a documented protocol per condition is a malpractice exposure waiting to surface, not just a workflow gap. The checklist's Clinical section covers what your onboarding, protocol, and outcomes framework needs to include before a single patient is enrolled.

What Prescribing Safety Looks Like for Peptides, Hormones, and Off-Label Therapies

Peptides, hormone optimization, and off-label prescribing sit at the center of longevity medicine, and at the center of its liability. The checklist's Medication and Diagnostics section spells out what documentation, monitoring, and legal basis has to exist before you write that first script.

How to Keep Marketing Claims and Referral Compliance Defensible

An unsubstantiated claim on a landing page or an inducement buried in a referral agreement is one of the fastest ways to draw regulatory attention in cash-pay medicine. The checklist's Brand, Sales, and Marketing section covers what has to be documented before you make a claim or pay for a referral.
